Our unseasonably warm weather has flown south, I guess, and we are enjoying the crisp, chilly weather that accompanies fall. We've had one gathering-up of leaves at 5100 Linden, and we'll probably have a couple more before the season is over. Someone in the elevator this morning suggested we might have SNOW tomorrow, but only about an inch. Guess I'm just not ready yet for snow, but READY OR NOT...

I have given up trying to figure out my most wonderful Mother. For several years Mother would travel NOWHERE, no matter what. Whenever I'd go out of town I'd ask her to "go with," but she remained adamant--no, no, no. But this summer, as you probably remember, Mother decided to go to General Conference in St. Louis with me. And wonder of wonders, she has agreed to travel to Alexandria, Virginia to visit Carol Ann and family. We'll fly out Thanksgiving day, I'll return to Lincoln on the Sunday after, and Mother will return when she gets good and ready! Carol Ann will travel back with her from Alexandria. Carol Ann is looking forward to Mother's visit.

Have heard recently from Illo Humphrey, Peggy Keys Delaney, and Walter Pearson. I'm making progress on a listing for the class of '62, and will begin a listing for the class of '63. Cynthia Poole-Gibson is assisting me with a graduation program for the class of 1963. Anyone out there who has information on the classes 1962-1967, please let me know. Thanks a bunch.

Until next time, "live long and prosper"!

Good day to you all!

This year has been a pretty interesting one for me. In spite of the reality of my still being in Nebraska, it hasn't been terribly bad.

Here are some blessings about being in Nebraska:

Mother and I live together--I am able to make sure that all goes well with her. She enjoys my company, and I enjoy hers. Our living together also reduces are living expenses.

Nebraska is a good, clean state. And though I don't ever expect to make the kind of money to be made on either coast, Mother and I live fairly well.

Okay, that's about it for the blessings! Fifteen of our classmates attended--we even saw Eugene "Chinky" Shawell at Sunday morning's business meeting. I think the one person I was most happy to see was Rosemary Jackson, whom I had not seen in over 20 years. What fun!

Drakey spoke for Friday night vespers, and a 1995 graduate, Danielle Storey, provided special music. She sang, "Only What You Do for Christ Will Last." She has a beautiful voice.

Sabbath morning a presentation was made by Global Vessels, an organization committed to visiting Africa each year and building structures, providing healthcare, and getting to know the people of Africa. At the end of the presentation, an appeal was made for Katrina survivors. MyRon Edmunds, class of '95 spoke for 11 o'clock service. He used Luke 13:1-9 as his text of the morning. His main thought: We have been very blessed by God. And with His blessings come responsibilities for service. We were blessed by Janet Watkins Wynn ('65) who sang for the meditation hymn, "Give Me Jesus." Danielle Storey sang the appeal, "The Savior is Waiting." Bev Vaughn provided piano/organ services the entire weekend. Girlfriend can play! We were blessed.

I'm back home now, but I gotta tell you. I long to be on the East Coast, I really do. I know there are blessings here that I enjoy, and I know that, right now, my ministry is to "Miss Dorothy," who is quite comfortable being here in Lincoln.

I spent the week following Labor Day with my girlfriend Virginia in Maryland. She and Frazier were preparing for a trip to Houston with about 40 people, to help with Katrina survivors. I played "secretary" for them, answering the phone, taking messages, coordinating with contact persons in Houston. It was fun.

Until next time--be blessed!

Hey Y'all! How You Be?

All is well here in beautiful downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. We've had some pretty mild weather for this time of year--instead of terribly humid, hot days, we've actually had a couple of mid-80's days, with a little timid breeze.

Mother and I are doing well, and I am gearing up for a trip east, starting September 1. I'll fly into Baltimore/Washington Airport, and Virginia and I will head for Pine Forge. We'll be there until sometime Sunday, when we'll head back to the DC area for about a week. I'm looking forward to it. I do wish that Mother would accompany me, but Miz Dorothy ain't havin' it! I'll return to Lincoln on September 11.

I've spoken with Mr. Anthony and he has let me know he and Mrs. Anthony are coming to Pine Forge. We will have the pleasure of their company at the Class of '65 luncheon. Using a number of my dad's slides, David Cato has put together a CD with images of Pine Forge and class members. Each member of the class of '65 who attends alumni weekend will be given this piece of "memory." Sure hope to see you there.

I spoke with Janet Watkins Wynn just the other day--she's on her way. Received an e-mail from Steve Drakeford, who'll be coming in on Friday evening. I've requested of Ersula that she help with some of the reporting of events--I hope to be hearing from her soon. Mr. Anthony called last week to state his intentions--he and Mrs. Anthony will BE there! Karen Bowden Mouzon will come in Sabbath morning--she'll have to leave early Sunday, but she's coming! So PLEASE come!

As you probably already know, Herb Powell will host the dinner for the class of '65 at The Inn at Reading. Class members and guests may look forward to a fine meal and great conversation at the luncheon. I'll plan to fly into Baltimore/Washington airport Thursday, September 1 and then drive up with Virginia Lester Mathis. Cecelia Lester is in charge of the career day on Friday for Pine Forge students, and we will certainly want to be there. Friday night will find us being blessed by words from our own Charles Drake--the rest of the service also will be handled by Class of '65 members. The speaker for Sabbath services is Elder Edmunds; I believe he's a young man from New Jersey.

The luncheon for the Class of '65 will be held at The Inn at Reading, hosted by Herb Powell. As many of you know, Herb has taken care of this cost for a number of years. We will likely hear words from our class president, Eldridge Edgecombe, and then will be able to spend some time just enjoying each other's company.

I sure hope all of you are planning to attend this year's celebration. And I don't just mean Class of '65 members. I'm going to be assisting several other classes in developing class directories--it will be challenging after many years, but is doable. All is well, and we are looking forward to Alumni Weekend at Pine Forge in early September.

I've been in contact with a couple of people from the class of 1962--we are beginning to build a class directory for their class. I'm actually interested in assisting several of the classes of the 1960s in building directories. I chose those classes because the people would be folk I would know more easily. But I'm hoping to prepare information to assist all classes interested in obtaining current information on classmates.

What's happening in your neck of the woods? Yesterday the heat index was 110 degrees! Hot and humid! That's the thing about Nebraska--severely hot and humid in the summer; terribly cold in the winter.

General Conference was wonderful. Mother and I were able to take in the exhibits on Friday morning--that's always fun. Many, many organizations were represented. And then on Saturday night, we heard President Jan Paulsen's challenge to the world body and witnessed the spectacular Parade of Nations!

I've decided to begin the process of assisting other Pine Forge classes in building directories of classmates. I'll probably start with classes in the 60s; they'll probably be the harder ones to track. So if there are those of you out there who have information on your classmates that you'd like to share, please reach me at nebo2@hotmail.com.

Miss Dorothy and I--Headed for General Conference

As many of you know, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is being held in St. Louis, Missouri this year, June 30 to July 9. Mother agreed months ago to go with me (this is quite unusual for her, though she did go to campmeeting with me, as well), so we are headed to St. Louis on Thursday. We'll hit the booths on Friday, enjoy Friday evening service at the Dome, and Sabbath morning will find us ensconced at Northside SDA Church for service. Henry Wright is to deliver the message of the hour, and we will look forward to hearing him.

You going to GC? First of all, Miss Dorothy, after having been bribed, consented to accompany me to Central States Campmeeting in Kansas City to hear Elder Alvin Kibble speak. He's the second reason we went. I had heard Elder Kibble speak at Mr. Lester's funeral service, and I was touched so by his message of hope and promise. The Holy Spirit was again with him at campmeeting, and we came away blessed.

Mother and I left directly after the service, stopped on the way home and ate our little picnic basket lunch, and were ensconced on our front lawn by late afternoon, just "kickin' it." I've been volunteering at the People's City Mission, the homeless shelter here in Lincoln, Nebraska, providing what support I can for a couple of hours after work. Their needs are great--kinda keep them in your thoughts and prayers, if you will.

I was able to attend Mr. Lester's funeral. The service was held at the Pine Forge Church and was very special. Evelyn Fordham Goodman and Noelette Leader Hutton provided the music--it was outstanding. Alvin Kibble did the eulogy, basing his remarks on hope and the promises of God. We do have hope that we will see our loved ones again, because God has promised it! I was pleased to be able to spend time with Virginia and her family during this time. Traveled back to Maryland with Virginia and Frazier and spent the weekend with them.

Today is my mother's 87th birthday. Brian, my youngest son (can't believe he's 25 years old), is graduating from Alabama A&M this weekend, and also returning to the Army has an officer. I also heard the Rocky Twyman ('66) received some accolades here recently--go Rocky!

FRIDAY HAS ARRIVED--YIPPEE!

The magic day of the week has finally arrived, I've got my bills paid for the week, and life is good!

Got an e-mail from Betty Darby Watson--she will be in beautiful Lincoln, Nebraska on May 7; I'm looking forward to visiting with her.

What's happening in your neck of the woods? I'm hard at work on a hearing for the Business and Labor Committee of the Nebraska State Legislature. We're working on changes to workers' compensation law today. Other hot issues include potential closing of small Nebraska schools and a bill being introduced so that folk can carry a concealed weapon. Neither issue is likely to pass. Our only black senator, Senator Ernie Chambers, is busy doing what he does best, shaking up things, and keeping folk on their toes. I do admire him so.

Miss Dorothy (Mommy) is well. Spring is coming, and we've just had some major yard work done. Now I get to haul all that stuff to the landfill.

What's happening in your neck of the woods?

Good morning, this Monday!

Hope everyone recovered from TAX DAY!

We've got a beautiful spring day here in beautiful downtown Lincoln, Nebraska! Actually, it's more like a summer day--we had temps yesterday near the 80s. How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

I am enjoying working with the Nebraska State Legislature. Nebraska is the only state with a Unicameral, a one-house system. The long session lasts a little better than four months and occurs every other year, and my work lasts about a month after that. Then I'm free until I find somewhere else to get into trouble! Everybody's gotta have their taxes or extensions filed by midnight tonight. Already got the tiny federal tax refund, awaiting the Georgia refund, because as some of you know, I spent the summer of 2004 working in Atlanta, GA. What fun! Why do I reside in Nebraska, you may wonder? Well, aside from its being billed "the good life" (no, no, that's actually Nebraska's slogan), Miss Dorothy is here and determined to stay here. She's been living here about 30 years, Daddy and Carmelita are buried here, and I think she's not wanting to have any changes in her life.

April 15 is also the first day of my blog--I'm kinda excited about that. Come in every day, check out my comments, post a comment or two yourself, and we'll see how it goes. Ciao.

Welcome

Geneva Simons Kitching's BLOG is coming soon.
